Fatigue is when the feeling of tiredness is not relieved by rest and sleep.
It has many possible causes and accompanies many different conditions.
The most common conditions which may cause fatigue are:
Sleep apnoea
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Diabetes
Depression
Anxiety
Viral infections accompanied with fever and sore throat
Hormonal causes (not enough thyroxine in your body)
Anemia
Food intolerance
Drug and alcohol abuse
Spring fever
Here’s how to beat Fatigue
Cut out caffeine.
According to The Royal College of Psychiatrists caffeine could be cut out gradually for best results over a 3 weeks period. After a month you should feel less tired.
Reduce alcohol consumption especially before bed time.
Alcohol may help you fall asleep but it gives bad quality of sleep.
The next day you’ll be feeling even more tired than before.
Drink more liquids
Water is best or non caffeine herbal tea with no sugar.
Hydration gives good energy.
Exercise regularly
Mild activities such as swimming, gymnastic or long walks will reduce stress levels and increase your energy.
Sleep well
Try to lose excess weight.
Carrying extra pounds is exhausting and it puts extra exhaustion on your heart.
Have a correct regime of eating.
Large meals will make you feel heavy.
Regular small meals are the better option.
Spend time with friends
Good company is a source of laughter, positivity and energy and can relieve stress.
In more severe cases see your GP.
Counselling may help fighting fatigue caused by stress or anxiety.
